The tree of life
They can't move. They accept whatever happens and they are not even concerned with other trees, yet they have survived for millennia. They have validated a distinctive evolutionary principle namely that of the feasibility of survival by adaptation and utilization of the resources available to them. They seem to illustrate that all the means of survival are always at hand and that survival and success are possible with all the natural elements that are present around them. They could not have germinated from a tiny seed and made such dramatic progress based solely on the basis of chance. They also demonstrate another interesting principle and that is that unpredictable events and even mistakes have really no long term consequence and are not important at all. Take a look at their successes. The visible shoots, flowers and fruits are beautiful to behold but are transient. They are entirely dependent on the roots. Growth will come but is entirely dependent on how well the roots have been placed. They are for most trees invisible and in most cases develop long before the tree blossoms and they seem to lack that visible glamour that demands acclaim. There is another fascinating observation that can be made. Trees seem to revel in anonymity. It is true that some are unique and they do not live forever but they seem to form a uniform mosaic that that has remained unchanged over time. They are part of a larger picture that cannot die.
